Documentary

Produced by a small team of four amateur video-journalists in 2019.

Many fishing communities are feeling the effect of fish stocks depleting on the shoreline and on the continental shelf, both due to the rise in population as well as poaching. This video shows the perspectives of three local Kalk Bay fishermen, as well as two people in the fishing industry.

Every morning, Garth, Mike & Artjie get up at 4:00 am and launch their fishing boat out in Kalk Bay harbour. When the sun comes up and the rest of Cape Town go to work, they are already halfway through their day. Kalk Bay has become a tourist attraction, the streets lined with cafes and shops - but at its heart, it is a fishing town.

In-depth Exploration

A solo project that formed part of our journalism degree. I set out on an in-depth exploration of the South African documentary industry. I wrote multiple long form articles, as well as conducted and produced three video interviews with notable filmmakers.
